in defense of video

Well...I have heard all the arguments for video playing. And I won't dispute the eye-hand thing. BUT my concern is the desensitization that can occur in some players. Particularly very young players. And my biggest concern is the lack of parental concern. It is easier to buy them a game that will keep them out of the parent's way, rather than hold some of the discussions that are necessary for any child growing up. Then the video becomes the parent and instills the ethics of the game designer into impressionable young minds.
I am not going to argue in this blog and this will be my last comment on it. I am using this space more as a stream of consciousness sort of thing. But by all means - discuss away! LOL

  1. ROFL awesome-sauce ;-)

There are a LOT of video games out there. We're talking Millions probably billions. And I seriously find that parents who leave their kids with nothing but video games to entertain them have a whole slew of issues going on.

However, there ARE video games for kids, like younger kids, to let them into that particular branch of media. one of my favorites is Viva Pinata. a quick google search for Viva Pinata game videos found video footage of the game (obviously...lol) and it is a fun, brightly colored game where you have to clean up a trashed garden, make it nice clean dirt and pretty grass, and then grow flowers and hope to attract some fun pinata's to live in your garden! it's a LOT of fun and the closest thing to "death" you have to worry about is if one pinata eats another one which happens in nature and there's not any point denying it, REGARDLESS of what Bambi's mom would like us to believe ;-)

Anyhoo, i believe that if you let the kids play games like that, or even better, multiplayer games like Mario Party where they need to work together with siblings/parents/friends lol, they'll understand that it's a game. real life isn't like this. *shrugs* it's all a matter of how the media is framed for the child.

and now... DISCUSS!! lol ;-) I enjoy these discussions, but if you want me to cut it out on your blog, i'd understand and go else where lol Love you

  2. As one of the "Darling Daughters" I would simply like to agree whole heartedly and with feeling and say that if i ever have children they will not have video games till they are grown and understand the sanctity of life and the difference between video game and real life.
